If you expert users out there say no to installing the program on the external drive, would a better option be to install the Sonar X1 program to my laptop C drive and everything else (Dimension Pro, plug ins, effects etc.) to the external drive - and save all my projects and audio to that same external drive too? In which case, which elements during the install need to go on my laptop hard drive? I've been confused in the past by installation options that don't give me enough information to make an informed decision.ģ00GB hard drive C (of which is 175 free) My question is whether this will work in practice? Will the program run more slowly (or not at all) if it's located on an external USB drive? Could I run into problems I hadn't anticipated? Removing previously installed Cakewalk products after installing Sonar X1 may remove some plug-ins. "We recommend installing Sonar onto a separate directory and then later uninstalling your previous version to reclaim disk space. I'd quite like to get rid of previous versions of Sonar from my computer if I can get X1 working properly but the installation advice seems contradictory: I've read the advice about not installing Sonar on top of a previous version and that X1 is a fresh install.

I have Sonar 7, 8 and 8.5 on my laptop hard drive (along with Dimension Pro and all Producer effects from previous versions). I have Sonar X1 Producer on disks in the boxed version.
